Why is final "д" pronounced "д" and not "т" of "город"?

My этаж manager says "д" but I recently spent a lot of time trying to memorize the pairs of voiced and unvoiced final consonants. So, she can't explain the reason in English, so she just smiles. Please help.

Voiced consonants other than л, м, н, р at the end of words are pronounced as the corresponding deaf.

So at the and of word will be:
